Everton Henriques, KD2ZZT, is a technology teacher at at Staten Island (NY) Technical High School, bringing relevant, interesting and “hands-on” Amateur Radio concepts to his engineering classroom. His involvement in the Solar Car Challenge sparked his initial interest in ham radio and “all of the cool communication and telemetry applications required to succeed as a team.”
Everton has participated in two levels of the ARRL Teacher’s Institute which he describes as “two amazing week-long immersions in electronics, wireless technology, remote sensing, amateur radio, and curriculum development.” He adds, “Not only was I able to level up to Amateur Extra, but I brought a ton of great lessons, experiences, and collaborative friendships back home!”
Everett is station trustee and co-founder of his school’s amateur radio club, WS1THS, where “we are all about learning and getting as many students licensed as possible.”
