There will be three license exam sessions:
No preregistration required - just show up prepared for the exam, along with the items listed below!
Volunteer Exam Coordinators (VECs) are now required by the FCC to submit your FCC Registration Number (FRN) with your license application form (upon successfully passing the exam). If you are applying for a license, you must create an FCC user account and register your Social Security Number (SSN) in the FCC Commission Registration System (CORES) before attending exam sessions. Registering will create an FRN, which will be used in all license transactions with the FCC. If you already have an FRN, then there is no need to register again.
Note: The FCC is in the process of implementing a license application fee of $35, but has not been clear on when exactly this will go into effect. Read the following for more information: ARRL: FCC Application Fee Instructions.
Those wishing to take an exam are required to bring the following:
Identification: The candidate must present a legal photo ID. This requirement is usually met with a driver's license, but it can be a passport or other legal identification card with the candidate's photo on it. When no photo ID is available, the candidate must present any two of the following:
Minors not having sufficient identification must have a concerned adult over the age of 21 with sufficient ID that can vouch for the identity of the minor.
Forms: The form VEC 605 necessary for application is available on-site. Any existing original licenses or Certificates of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) and copies of each to accompany the current application must be brought with you.
General: Non programmable calculators are allowed; cell phone calculators are NOT allowed. Scratch paper and writing utensils will be provided. The applicants are required to observe proper decorum, so as not to disturb other applicants.
