K1QAR: “An Optimized High Power Magnetic Loop Antenna” at 2026 HamX

Join Ted Robinson, K1QAR, for “An Optimized High Power Magnetic Loop Antenna” in the Sterling Room / W2 at 4 PM on Saturday, August 15, at the 2026 Northeast HamXposition.

“A magnetic field antenna is potentially more efficient than a dipole, but has extremely low radiation resistance. This presentation will detail its engineering challenges, and how they can be solved cost effectively to make an antenna that is 1/10 the size of a dipole with minimal construction time. Warning: It’s not cheap, and its high energy concentration in a small space can be dangerous.”

Ted’s wide ranging design experience started in the 9th grade with a plug in Nuvistor pre-amp. Later projects included aircraft and ocean yacht performance enhancements. Operating K1QAR from noisy, congested urban QTHs on the lower HF bands, he has optimized the magnetic loop.
